about us

a place for equal play

Women’s sports as second string? Not here. And not anymore. Inspired by one of the earliest women’s soccer teams the Dick, Kerr Ladies FC (the “Rough Girls”) who played hard for what they believed in, we carry the flag for women athletes. We stand for equality in sports–in play, in pay, in everything. We rally loud and proud. And we’ve built a home to match, a place that’s welcoming, inclusive, inspiring and, most importantly, fun. Whether you’re looking for a new game-day tradition, alumni event, after-practice dinner with the family or an overtime catch up, we invite all fans of all ages to join us to watch ALL the sports.

the soul of women’s sports in the heart of old ballard

Eighteen screens and space for 250 of your closest friends. We like to think of it as the most intimate stadium experience Seattle has to offer: cold beer within reach, a full menu that knows both classic and hometeam favorites, and a stunning space that’s anything but the cheap seats.

Located in the historic Henry Whyte building, Rough & Tumble’s inaugural home is one of storied history. With hand-hewn beams, high ceilings and industrial windows that open to the water, the pub retains the feel of the site’s original sawmill. We’re honored to carry forward the legacy of grit and gumption that shaped this place, adding women’s sports to the roster of ways the region has always pushed for better.

founder, fan, fearless

Growing up with scuffed knees and racing with Green Lake Crew, Jen is a life-long athlete, tireless fan, perpetual optimist and entrepreneur. Her latest venture is equal parts community public house and personal passion.

When she couldn’t find a bar or any place outside her living room to watch the OL Reign’s semi-final game, Jen realized her pastime was also a cultural zeitgeist. And it’s true: women’s sports are the fastest growing sector of the sports industry and boast the most avid fans. Yet, less than 5% of sports media coverage is dedicated to 51% of the population. When lucky enough to find a women’s game on, it’s relegated to the smallest screen (and rarely carries sound).

Rough & Tumble exists to change this, leveling the playing field one pub, one game and one cheer at a time. It’s a place, a belief and a movement. LFG!
